Matt Berglund

Director, User Experience

Matt has over 15 years of experience designing websites, marketing-driven media and web applications. He’s worked for design studios, IT firms, start-ups and large companies such as IBM, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC and AARP. As Director of User Experience at Brooks Bell, Matt delivers marketing-focused designs, insights and recommendations drawn from years of experience pursuing design excellence, conversions, best practices and optimal user experiences.

Matt was born just outside of Boston where his love for Fenway Park and the Boston Garden took root at a very early age. After the 1985 New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl, his family packed up everything and moved to the Washington, D.C. area.

Disillusioned at the university level, Matt took some time off from college and worked in the professional sound and recording industry for several years. Matt was fortunate enough to work alongside some of the best in the business, and enjoyed many weekends working gigs for national recording artists and figureheads. An aspiring musician himself, Matt decided to trade in his dream of rock stardom for his ultimate dream of having his own family. He returned to his studies and graduated from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia with a degree in Art Studio. In 1998 he began his design career as an intern in a web design studio designing what he believes may have been some of the first websites and interactive features on the planet.

In 2008, Matt and his family enthusiastically moved to Raleigh, NC and established new roots in one of the nation's top areas to live. His family spends many hours enjoying youth sports, college sports, parks, trips to the beach, time with grandparents, homeschool adventures, and a great community of neighbors and friends.

Without a doubt, Matt’s greatest enjoyment comes from spending quality time with his beautiful and incredible wife, and his absolutely amazing four children.

Our Core Values at Work

What’s your favorite way to pursue knowledge?
I like to immerse myself in a pool of experts for a while, and soak up as much knowledge as possible. Reading and researching is great of course, but first-hand knowledge from experienced professionals can't be beat.
What’s one true thing about you that not many people know?
I like to rock, indie-rock style. I'd love to get the band back together. Where are you guys?
What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
Just the other day I pulled a ball out of the creek for my kids. I swear, there are very mean and dangerous snakes in that creek. I got the ball anyway.
What makes you a great team member?
I love "team." Humans are so much better as a team. I'm pretty sure we were designed this way.
What are five things that make you happy?
Faith, my wife, my children, family, friends, laughter, music, guitars, art, home architecture, real estate investing, photography, the North Carolina coast, travel, food, skiing, golfing, Fenway Park, foosball, sleep. Is that five?
